Cactus (Nopales)

Nopales cactus tastes crisp and fresh if eaten raw, and somewhat similar to okra when cooked. They don’t have spikes, but on occasion, you will find a needle like hair here and there, so wash before consuming. They also behave as an appetite suppressant, eating little yet feeling full longer than usual afterwards. You can cut them up for the jelly to put in drinks for extra texture, too. They are a bit slimy when fresh and very slimy when cooked, so be warned! Typically used in fresh salads, grilled, or fried.

Nopales cacti are associated with potential anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, hypoglycemic, antimicrobial, and neuroprotective properties. Studies also suggest possible aid to obesity related issues.
